Haryana to honour women achievers

Chandigarh, Nov 27 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to honour those women of the state who have excelled in any field of activity since the inception of the state.

Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kartar Devi today said the decision had been taken to inspire girls and motivate the people to change their mindset towards the girl child.

The state government had already declared 2006 as the Year of the Girl Child and a number of schemes were being implemented to improve status and acceptability of the girl child in the society, she added.

She said women who had made outstanding achievements would be honoured at a state level function to be held next month.

Such achievers could be in any field of activity like education, sports, public life, public administration, social work, art and culture, science and technology, literature, health activities and bravery, at national or international level.
