Firing between patrol party and UPDS reported

Diphu, Nov 27 (UNI) An encounter between a patrol party and cadres of the UPDS was reported from Dewhori village under Kheroni police station in Karbi Anglong district of Asom today.

Karbi Anglong, Superintendent of Police informed here that a joint party of 144 CRPF, 2nd APTF and local police was on patrol in the area.

The party spotted a group of youth bathing across the river.

However, the youths fled the spot on seeing the patrol party.

The security personnel crossed the river and started firing towards the group.

The UPDS cadres also fired back and managed to escape. Some combat uniforms and shoes were recovered from the spot.

There were no injuries on either side, the SP said.

Meanwhile, UPDS general secretary Horen Bey alleged that the security forces were intruding the outfit's areas and breaking truce ground rules.

The United People's Democratic Solidarity(UPDS) is in a ceasefire agreement with the government.
