Panaji, Nov 27 (UNI) Mr Sudhir Nandgaonkar has been elected the president of the Mumbai Chapter of International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) at a meeting held here.

FIPRESCI has established jury at 40 film festivals across the world, including the Mumbai International Film Festival, Kerala, Osian and the MAMI festival. It gives away awards to up and coming directors and its aims to improve the standard of film criticism.

Mr Nandgaonkar, who is also the director of Asian Film Festival and MAMI film festival being held in Mumbai every year, says the meeting, held yesterday, expressed concern that the media only reported glamour and entertainment and neglected film festivals.

This can be countered only through organising more festivals and creating awareness about international cinema.

Mr Narhari Rao was elected secretary of the FIPRESCI Mumbai chapter and M K Raghavendra Treasurer.

The office of the Mumbai Chapter will show a shift from Mumbai to Bangalore as the newly elected Treasurer hails from Bangalore.
