Delhi Master Plan by January 2007: Reddy

New Delhi, Nov 27 (UNI) Amid a walk out by the Opposition NDA members, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy today assured Lok Sabha that the Master Plan 2021, which would be ready by January, would provide relief to traders facing court-mandated sealing.

In his reply to the debate in the Lok Sabha on the sealing drive in Delhi, the minister also said that the Government was in the process of regularising 1400 unauthorised colonies. ''The process is on and in a few weeks time, a Cabinet decision will be taken in this regard,'' he announced.

Mr Reddy said the Master Plan was being prepared and was in its last stage. ''It will be expedited to be ready by January 2007,'' he said .

Dissatisfied by the absence of any categorical assurance by the Minister against the ongoing sealing drive, the Opposition members, led by BJP Deputy Leader V K Malhotra, walked out of the House, saying the Government had not promised to bring any legislation to provide any relief to the traders being uprooted under the sealing drive.

Mr Reddy also said the Master Plan 2021 would take care of all schools and institutions which were also coming under the sealing drive but given relief upto May 2007.

He said the Government had also decided to construct one lakh houses for the poor in two years time. In the construction of such houses, technology developed by the Department of Science and Technology would be used.

Mr Reddy agreed that there was some anamolies in the DDA Act and the MCD Act in regard to the sealing of properties. He said he would be contacting the concerned ministries if these could be rectified.
