Ranchi, Nov 27 (UNI) Jharkhand High Court today initiated contempt of court proceeding against Deputy Superintendent of Police(CID) Irshad Ahmad.

The court also directed the government to conduct an inquiry against the DSP for writing letters to the Chief Justice as well as not filing apology affidavit in connection with staying of procedure of arrest warrant of Bhanu Pratap Shahi, MLA.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Muthuswamy Karpagyavinayagam and Justice D P Singh passed the order while hearing a writ petition of its own motion.

Mr Ahmad today appeared before the court but failed to file his unconditional apology affidavit, sources said.

On November 23, the court had directed Mr Ahmad to file an apology affidavit by November 27 failing which a non-bailable warrant would be issued against him.

The Inspector General(IG), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Garwah Superintendent of Police and Investigating Officers had filed their apology on November 23 but Mr Ahmad sought more time.

Recently, Mr Ahmad had written a letter to the Chief Justice saying his erstwhile counsel and officials were not supporting him and also made some remarks against the state's Advocate General.

The court observed that writing letters to the Chief Justice was a contempt of court and the DSP needs ''a medical check up.'' The court directed the state government to remove Mr Ahmad from Bhanu's case and take appropriate action against him.

Earlier, the chief minister in a press conference said Shahi, who had been suspended from the Forward Bloc, would be inducted into the cabinet as all the arrest warrants against him were withdrawn.

This statement of the chief minister forced the court to intervene and sought clarification from the investigating officers as why the arrest warrants were withdrawn.
