Chappell comment raises uproar in Bengal assembly

Kolkata, Nov 27 (UNI) The West Bengal assembly today witnessed an uproar when some Opposition Trinamool Congress members raised yesterday's comments of India's cricket coach Greg Chappell towards the members of the legislators.

They demanded an all party resolution and condemnation against the reported remark of the coach.

Raising the issue during the question hour, senior Trinamool Congress MLA Sougata Roy demanded that the house take a separate resolution condemning the Chappell's comment, who allegedly criticised the members of the Indian legislators.

But intervening into the demand, Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim said that it was not in his jurisdiction to raise and discuss the issue since Chappell's comment was directed towards the Lok Sabha members.

Since no state legislature party was in any way involved in the issue and Chappell's comment was not directed against any member of the hosue, the West Bengal assembly has no jurisdiction to discuss the issue, Mr Halim said as he rejected the motion.
