VHP burns effigies of HRD Minister

Varanasi, Nov 26 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists here today took to the streets over the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) notice to its teachers for attending an RSS seminar on November 11 last.

The VHP activists alongwith BHU students and Sanskar Bharti workers gathered near the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) and burnt in effigy HRD Minister Arjun Singh and the University Vice Chancellor Panjab Singh.

The students and Sanskar Bharti volunteers indulged in violent protests over the same issue last night too. They allegedly damaged street lights on the varsity campus. Getting the information of the incident BHU security personnel conducted late night raids at the Birla hostel but could not nab the culprits.

The entire saffron brigade is up in arms over the BHU notice seeking explanation from at least four senior teachers about their attendance at an RSS seminar in the city on November 11.

The varsity has given a fortnight time to the concerned teachers to reply to the notice, failing which disciplinary action will be initiated against them.
