Reservation being misused in UP: Cong
Lucknow, Nov 26 (UNI) Congress today charged the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh with misusing the Reservation policy.
UP Congress president Salman Khurshid said here that the state government was denying reservation benefits to most backwards and backward Muslims. He said had the Mulayam Singh Yadav government been serious about reservation, it could have not ignored the two groups.
Mr Khurshid also charged the state government with using unfair means to avoid its appearance in cases where PILs have been filed against various decisions of the state government. ''PILs have been accepted by the courts. But the state government has given one reason or the other to avoid early taking up of the cases...If it has not done anything wrong, then it should go ahead with the hearings,''he said adding that people had a right to know what courts said about the government.
The UPCC president flayed the chief minister for making undue remarks against the Governor. ''What the governor said about police was well under his privileges...it is incorrect to ask the governor against making such statements,'' he added.
Without naming the Rashtriya Lok Dal, he said if certain political parties were not satisfied with the performance of the state government, they should withdraw support. ''We should think of the future of the state and not immediate personal interests,'' he advised the RLD.
