People panic over hoax bomb threat in trains

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 26 (UNI) Panic gripped people at Kanhangad railway station for some time today following an anonymous call to the station master that bombs had been placed in some trains passing through the area.

Bomb and dog squads had carried out a through check in trains and the station premises but nothing was spotted. The call eventually turned out to be a hoax.

According to police sources here, an unidentified person called up the duty station master in the morning and informed him that bombs had been planted by a fundamental outfit in some trains passing through the station and would explode between 0640 hours and 0745 hours.

Police identified the call was made from a mobile phone.

However, when the authorities tried to call back the caller, it did not responed.

The police have retained the bomb and dog squad at Kanhangad for further investigation, sources said.

Following the threat, several trains were halted in the station for nearly half-an-hour.

Meanwhile, in Kannur also, bomb and dog squads had carried out intense search in the station premises, sources added.
