NLC labourers calls off strike following settlement
Cuddalore, Nov 26 (UNI) The contract labourers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation(NLC) called off their 13-day strike, following conciliatory talks last night, official sources today said.
The sources said the labourers returned to work today after the Cuddalore District Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi, heading a tripartite meeting, struck an accord to alleviate the ventilated grievances of the workers.
More than 13,000 workers, were demanding 8.33 per cent bonus from the management and sought non-deduction from salary for the advance Rs 1,500 paid earlier.
The employees, who are on pay-roll had held a one-day token strike on November 24 in support of the contract workers. The ignite digging work at the mine was disrupted due to the strike.
A tripartite meeting, presided by Mr Bedi, with district police superintendent Sanjay Kumar, representatives of the labour unions and the NLC management was called for yesterday at 2000 hours and extended to 0300 hours today for amicable settlement.
The management would record attendance for the strike period and the employees would not be victimised for taking part in the strike, the sources added.
