Karnataka, Andra Pradesh qualify for knock out stage

Margao, Nov 26 (UNI) Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh qualified for knock out stage in the South Zone U-15 Polly Umrigar trophy cricket tournament on the concluding day of the 5th round in Goa today.

At Arlem Ground, Andhra Pradesh outplayed Goa by an inning and six runs and won by bonus point.

While Karnataka and Tamil Nadu ties against Hyderabad and Kerala respectively ended in tame draws and had to content with two points each by vertue of first innings lead.

After the end of the 5th and last round, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh finished with 15 points each, followed by Hyderabad 11, Tamil Nadu 6, Goa 2 and Kerala (Zero).

Andhra Pradesh, after piling up their total score to 249, dismissed Goa cheaply for 94 runs and asked to follow on. Goa on their second innings resuming at the overnight score of 68 for 4, fell to the guiles of off spinner S K M Bhasha, who claimed 6 wickets conceding only 37 runs, and J Koteshwar Rao (4 for 46) and were all out for 149 in 110.3 overs adding 81 runs to their total.

Except Reagan Pinto (30), Keenan Vaz (38), Rudresh Azgaokar (20) and Ganeshraj Narvekar (14), all other batsman failed to negotiate the rivals attack.

In the second match, Karnataka, resuming at the overnight score of 188 for 4 in reply to Hyderabad 177, amassed a total of 253 for 9 declared in 98 overs and gained a first innings lead of 76 runs.

Dinesh Barvankar (57) and Shishir Bhavani (67) were the main scorers for Karnataka. Sandeep Gaud (4 for 87), Ravi Teja (2 for 36) and Rahul Runnanut (3 for 30) bowled well for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad in their second innings managed to score 197 for 8 in 77 overs at the end of the last mandatory over with B Sandeep (39), Sayad Ali (27), Ravi Teja (32). Bharat Kondaji (3 for 73), Ronit More (2 for 80) and Karun Nair (2 for 43), were most successful bowlers for Karnatka.

Kerala, resuming at the overnight score of 87 for 4 in reply to Tamil Nadu 266, were all out for 136 in 79.5 overs and gained 130 runs first innings lead. Tamil Nadu, in their second innings scored 84 for 2 and declared their innings. Kerala, chasing the target of 215 to win, managed to score 75 for 8 in 61 overs.
