Jat Mahasabha demands Bharat Ratna for Chhotu Ram
New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) The All India Jat Mahasabha today demanded Bharat Ratna for former minister in the Punjab Government in pre-Independence era Chhotu Ram for his contribution to the agrarian community in India.
At a function held to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Chhotu Ram here, the Jat Mahasabha also demanded that a statue of the jat leader be installed in Parliament and a university be named after him.
Speaking on the occasion, former Lok Sabha Speaker Balram Jakhar lauded the steps taken by the former minister to improve the lot of peasantry in Punjab in particular and the entire nation in general.
Among others who attended the function, presided over by former Union Minister Ramniwas Mirdha, were former Governor Virender Sharma and MPs Sajjan Kumar, Dipender Hooda and Gyan Prakash Pilania.
