India registers 1-0 lead over Chinese Taipei
Hyderabad, Nov 26 (UNI) India gained 1-0 lead over Chinese Taipei with Sania Mirza winning the women's singles final of Asia Hopman Cup Tennis Championship at SAAP Tennis Complex here today.
Sania overpowered Chinese Taipei's I-Hsuan Hwang 6-2, 6-4 on the centre court.
Sania first broke Hwang's service in the third game, but lost her service in the next game.
With her forte ground shots, Sania broke her rival's service again in fifth and seventh games to win the first set in 31 minutes.
Though Hwang displayed her dexterity in selection of shots, she could not manage to keep her tempo going and lost her service in fifth game in the second set.
Finally, Sania won the second set 6-4 in 49 minutes.
