Haryana govt to improve roads in state

Chandigarh, Nov 26 (UNI) In order to strengthen the network of roads in the state and provide better connectivity to commuters, the Haryana Government has decided to incur a sum of Rs 200 crore to improve 688 Km long rural roads and over 6000 Km long state roads under 'Bharat Nirman Yojna' during the current financial year.

While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that for easy conveyance of people, the work had also been initiated to construct the 135 km long Kundli-Maneswar-Palwal Expressway to connect National Highway number 1, 2, 8 and 10, Similarly, work had also started to four-lane Zirakpur-Panchakula-Kalka stretch of National Highway number 22.

The work to six-lane 28 Km stretch of National Highway number eight to conenct Gurgaon-Delhi at a cost of Rs 775 crore is in progress.

He said the old bridges were being repaired and widened with the loan assistance of Rs 60 Crore from NABARD and a project costing Rs 371 crore has been prepared to upgrad all bye-passess falling in the National Capital Region (NCR). The work on four lanes of 140 Km long strech of National Highway number 10 connecting elhi-Rohtak-Hisar-Sirsa has also started.

He said to ease traffic from Faridabad to Delhi, work on National Highway number two, known as Badarpur project costing Rs 267.50 crore has also started.

The government plans to spend Rs 872 crore on the construction of bridges and development of roads, he said. Work has also begun on elevated and udnerground road project on National Highway number one in Panipat at the cost of Rs 417.85 crore.

He informed that during last one and-a-half year, 527 km long new roads were constructed and 5059 km long roads were repaired. Besides 13 bridges were constructed during this period, he added.
