Mysore, Nov 26 (UNI) Janata Dal (S) national president H D Deve Gowda today threatened to take action against party leaders at the national level for their alleged move to expel him from the party.

''I am the national president of the party. Our party has its own constitution, I know the bylaws. Party constitution has given me the powers to act,'' former Prime Minister said.

Participating in meet the press programme organised by the Mysore Reporters Guild here, he said he was 'irked' over today's reports in the media about the statement made by JD(S) National Executive Committee Members M P Veerendra Kumar, Surendra Mohan and P G R Sindhia, and ''he knew the party constitution very well.'' He said he would take action at an appropriate time against those who had given such statements against him.

Asked about the high voltage campaign by his party in Chamundeswari constituency by election, Mr Gowda retorted, ''What do you mean by high voltage champaign, what is wrong if our workers strive for the success of our party's candidate, didn't S M Krishna as Congress Chief Minister enter the polling booth in the state. He need not learn election code of conduct from Congressmen''.

Reacting to Congress allegations that JD (S) activists had clocked Congress MLC Mallajamma from campaigning in Dasanagoppalu on Friday night, Mr Gowda said there were election observers to take care of such situation. ''I need not comment on it,'' he added.
