Morena, MP, Nov 26 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh was hit by 'friendly fire' when state Congress Committee Vice-President Sobran Singh Mawai wrote to Mr Singh urging him not to take part in a Congress workers' convention scheduled here tomorrow.

Copies of the letter, which is an attack on Mr Singh's 1993-2003 chief ministerial tenure, were sent to party President Sonia Gandhi, General Secretary V Narayansamy -- who also holds charge of Madhya Pradesh -- and state unit supremo Subhash Yadav.

Hinting at increasing groupism in the Congress, Mr Mawai added that tomorrow's event was improper from the organisational point of view.

''Instead, a convention should be organised at Dabra along the lines of the 1993 Dabra Convention -- at the behest of the late Madhavrao Scindia -- which led to the public reposing faith in the Congress during the 1993 and 1998 assembly polls. Such a convention will convey a message of unity to the workers,'' he claimed.

Former MLA Adal Singh Kansana has organised a farmers' convention tomorrow but not invited the region's towering leader Jyotiraditya Scindia. Consequently, Mr Kansana's supporters are dejected. Such an event was earlier organised by MLA Govind Singh at Lahar in Bhind district.
