Dalit leaders plan morcha on Dec 4 to condemn Khairlanji massacre

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Nov 26 (UNI) Dalit leaders from various factions including Prakash Ambedkar, Jogendra Kawade and Ramdas Athawale propose to take out a joint ''morcha'' to the State Legislative assembly at Nagpur on December 4 to condemn the massacare of four dalits at Khairlanji in the Vidarbha region, Republican Party of India (A) Ramdas Athwale said here today.

Mr Athawale, who was here to attend a private function told reporters that, the dalit organisations are concerned over the rising incidents of assaults on dalits in the state.

Mr Athawale opined that dalit members from Daryapur and Chimur should boycott the forthcoming by-elections there, to protest against the Khairlanji masscare.

The Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders should not forget that they are in the power in Maharashtra because of dalit support and, therefore, it was mandatory on their part to provide protection to dalits and other deprived sections of the society, he added.
