Councillor nabbed over suicide of rival candidate

Akola, Nov 26 (UNI) A newly-elected Congress municipal councillor has been arrested at Patur tehsil, 30 km from here, on the charge of abetment to suicide after a candidate, who lost the civic polls, took the drastic step and blamed the former for his death in his suicide note.

Police today said Parashram Umbarkar was apprehended last night in the wake of the alleged suicide by his rival Ramesh Banasa Kute, who hanged himself to death at his residence in Patur yesterday.

Kute contested the election in ward no 4 under the banner of Nagar Vikas Aghadi and secured only 45 votes, placing him at fourth position.

In his suicide note, the deceased alleged that Umbarkar, a notorious character, had threatened him with dire consequeces.

Fearing the life of his wife and children, he committed suicide.

Incidentally, Kute's wife Vaishali Kute was the former civic body chief.
