Hyderabad, November 26 (UNI) BCCI President Sharad Pawar has called for an improvement in the standard of pitches in the country for the overall development of the players, who more often than not find it difficult when faced with fast and bouncy tracks abroad.

''BCCI is now focussing on quality of pitches in the country,'' Mr Pawar said while felicitating the wonder kids of Hyderabad Manoj Kumar and Shaibaz Tumbi, who broke Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli's record of the longest standing partnership.

''Indian batsmen have good record on home soil, but their failure abroad draws severe criticism,'' he said in a veiled reference to the recent debacle against South Africa and Johannesburg.

He adviced Hyderabad Cricket Association to prepare quality pitches to help the local talent to overcome tough challenges in senior cricket.

Heaping praises on Manoj and Shaibaz, he said, ''Sachin Tendulkar broke Gavaskar's record. Now Sachin's and Kambli's record is broken.

I am happy that these boys created history. The whole country is proud of them. BCCI will encourage them by nurturing their talent with the help of HCA. This is good for Indian cricket. Now they must aim for playing for India.'' Later Mr Pawar also presented cheques of Rs 50,000 to both of them.
