Three have miraculous escape as Car catches fire

Puducherry, Nov 25 (UNI) Panic stricken road users ran for safety as a Santro car went up in flames in the middle of the road near a statue of Indira Gandhi here today.

According to police, Mr Ramesh, an assistant manager in a private industry at Thirubhuvanai was taking his two children to school in the car. When the car reached the signal point at Indira Gandhi statue, Mr Ramesh noticed that smoke was coming out from the engine of the vehicle he immediately got down with his children.

Fire tenders were summoned to put out the fire. But the time they put out the fire, a good portion of the car, including the children's school bags were gutted. The loss was estimated at around Rs 50,000, police said.

A problem in the Air-Conditioning machine in the car caused the fire, police added.
