Sugarcane PP be fixed at not less than Rs 210 per quintal in UP:JD(U
New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) has strongly criticised the Uttar Pradesh Government for inordinate delay in announcing the purchase price (PP) of sugarcane from the farmers.
Party General Secretary Javed Raja in a press statement issued here today condemned the UP Government for adopting a pro rich policy allowing the sugar millers to deny the farmers their due rights as the prices of every other input that is required for sugarcane farming had gone up several times. He added, in the absence of new price the millers would continue to pay the farmers the old purchase rate.
He said as a result, the millers are just paying at the rate of Rs 105 per quintal of sugarcane to the farmers and this price was fixed when the price of sugar in the open market was just Rs 1100 per quintal.
The price of open market sugar has gone up to Rs 2200 per quintal but these millers are still paying the farmers at the old rate of Rs 105 per quintal, Mr Raja regretted.
He said in the present scenario the UP Governemnt should anounce a purchase price for sugarcane where the farmers should get a minimum of Rs 210 per quintal.
