SAD (Badal) expels Shampura for contesting SGPC polls
Chandigarh, Nov 25 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has expelled Gurvinder Singh Shampura from the party on charges of violating party discipline.
Mr Shampura today contested the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) presidential elections at Amritsar against SAD candidate Avtar Singh Makkar. He lost by a huge margin of 104 votes.
Mr Shampura was put up as a combined candidate of various 'panthic' groups opposed to the SAD.
A press release issued by the SAD office here this evening stated that Mr Shampura had violated party discipline by contesting against Jathedar Makkar.The decision was taken by SAD chief Prakash Singh Badal.
