Protest against Rajapakse visit; 39 people held

Coimbatore, Nov 25: Thirty nine people, including two women, belonging to Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK), Bharatiya Forward Bloc and Thani Tamil Sena (TTS) were arrested today when they tried to ''hang'' an effigy of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse near Red Cross Building in this textile city of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said the agitation was led by HMK President Arjun Sampath and TTS Founder Nagaimugan.

The agitation was to condemn the killing of innocent Lankan Tamils in the island nation and to protest against the visit of Mr Rajapakse to India.
