PM unveils Lal Bahadur Shastri's statue

New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at CGO complex in Central Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri was a great freedom fighter, administrator and a true leader. His towering personality, his life and work would remain a shining example of leadership and his life would also inspire the coming generations of the country.

Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri's sons Anil and Sunil were among the dignitaries present at the function.

Mr Reddy described Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri as a great patriot, modest and a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and alter ego of Jawaharlal Nehru. Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri could be described as a beautiful blend of what Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru stood for, Mr Reddy said.

Ms Dixit said Mr Lal Bahadur Shastri's voice, his ideals and his work for freedom and building up of this great nation were written in the golden history of India.
