Mon Comm exposes MCD-CTC Plaza collusion

New Delhi, Nov 25: The Supreme Court appointed Monitoring Committee (MC) has brought to the notice of the apex court the alleged collusion of the MCD officials in not taking action for eleven years against CTC Plaza, a big shopping complex in South Delhi, which was booked for illegal constructions and encroachment in July 1995.

The MCD issued several notices to the owners in the past but no action was taken and it was sealed only after the orders of the apex court.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal, Justice C K Thakker and Justice R V Raveendran yesterday expressed surprise over the attitude of the MCD officials concerned but in the interest of justice, gave one week to the applicant CTC Plaza, who have moved the apex court for getting their premises desealed, to file their response to the MC report.

The court also directed the applicant to give copies of the affidavit to the counsel for the Centre, DDA, MCD and amicus curae Ranjit Kumar, who can file their response within a week thereafter.

The matter will come up for a hearing before the winter break of the court.
