Man arrested for threatening Brazil stock exchange

SAO PAULO, Brazil, Nov 25: A man who claimed he was carrying a bomb tried to force his way into Brazil's stock exchange on Friday, but he was arrested and police later said said he was unarmed.

Unemployed photographer Carlos Eduardo de Melo Menezes, 31, apparently taped batteries around his body to make it appear as if he had explosives, said Colonel Salgado, commander of the military police in central Sao Paulo.

''He tried to make it look like one (a bomb),'' said Salgado.

Menezes was arrested for sabotage and could be jailed for between two and four years.

Trading was not affected, although workers were prevented from entering or leaving the building during the incident, officials at the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange said.
