Khadi industries: UPA govt will revive Sonia

Tirupathi, Nov 25 (UNI) UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said the UPA government was deeply committed to reviving Khadi industries for employment generation.

Inaugurating the three-day annual conference of Akihl Bharat Rachanatmak Samaj (ABRS), a Federation of the Gandhian social actvists and organisations and the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Rashtria Seva Samithi(RASS) here, she said the UPA government was making efforts to eradicate poverty and illiteracy. It was committed to uplift the education and welfare of the tribals.

She said NGOs and voluntary organisations should come forward and participate in the hygiene and sanitation programmes launched by the Centre. ''Without the participation of voluntary organisations, no programme would succeed,'' she added.

Observing that the Centre had enacted the Right to Information Act (RTI) to bring transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government bodies, Ms Sonia said the Centre also launched the National Rural Employnment Guarantee programme (NREGP) in Feburary last to provide employment to the poor.

Ms Gandhi said the governments should also support poor Dalits and Backward classes and bring about a change in their lives.
