India emerging as major economic power: Sonia

Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 25 (UNI) AICC Chief and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said India was emerging as a major economic power and the entire world had started respecting the country due to the rapid strides in development.

Addressing a gathering at the All India Rachanatmak Samaj Anniversary celebrations here, she said though the country was developing at a rapid pace, it was disturbing there still prevailed violence and poverty and asserted the UPA Government was committed to removing the maladies with dedication and devotion.

Ms Gandhi said Gandhian principles were relevent even today and the society would be benefited when they were followed by every citizen.

In his address, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy gave a briefing on the developmental programmes his government had taken up for the uplift of the poor and the downtrodden.

Ms Gandhi was the best example for sacrifice as she had turned rejected an opportuntiy to become the Prime Minister of one of the world's most powerful nations even after the people wanted her to accpet the high post.
