Agartala, Nov 25 (UNI) The first hip resurfacing operation in the north east was conducted successfully at the Tripura Medical College (TMC) and Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital at the Hapania area here last evening.
The surgery was conducted by eminent orthopaedic surgeon Dr Rakesh Rajput on 25-year-old journalist Sipra Das.

''As far as I understand this is for the first time that such an operation was conducted in the entire region,'' said Dr Rajput, adding that Ms Das would be able to walk normally within six weeks.
He further said people can lead a normal life without any restrictions. ''Many sportspersons, dancers have undergone such an operation and were leading a normal life,'' he said.
TMC is the first private medical college in the entire eastern India which is run by Global Education Net (GENET).
Dr Rajput expressed great satisfaction at the GENET run hospital. ''It is equipped with almost all modern techniques that are needed. The people of the region need not go out for treatment as this hospital can provide them all the facilities they get in other metropolitan cities,'' said Dr Rajput.
