Cremation delayed over medical aid demand

Akola, Nov 25 (UNI) The death of a woman, who died of cancer, created a stir at the Aasengaon Bazar locality in Akot taluka of this district as the relatives refused to carry out the last rites unless the State administration immediately released Rs 10,000 grant that has been announced for cancer patients.

The last rites were finally performed after 22 hours of the woman's death and after the sum was handed over to the agitated locals who were being led by Anna Hazare's Bhrastachar Virodhi Andolan Samiti (BVAS), the anti-corruption agitation committee.

Shobha Manohar Dhande (32), who had died on Thursday last, was cremated yesterday only after Sub Divisional Officer (Civil) Mr Ghevande handed over the grant of Rs 10,000 to the deceased's husband and assured action against the erring official within a week.
