CM clears controversy over house construction near Naveen Nivas

Bhubaneswar, Nov 25 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today refuted the allegation that the construction of a house close to his Naveen Nivas has not been allowed for security reason.

Making a statement in the Orissa Assembly, Mr Patnaik said he considered it appropriate to offer clarification since a newspaper report stated that one Mr Laxmidhar Mohanty was denied permission to build a house near Naveen Nivas due to security reason. The matter was also raised on the floor of the House.

The chief minister said the matter was enquired after he received a petition from Mr Mohanty on November 23. As per the report of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Mr Mohanty has a plot adjacent to Naveen Nivas where he was residing.

He said permission was granted to Mr Mohanty to build a house as per the plan submitted by him but later on inspection the BDA found some violation. The BDA filed a case and a showcause notice was issued but Mr Mohanty approached the High court and the matter was now sub -judice, Mr Patnaik added.

On the allegation of Mr Mohanty that he had not been allowed to construct a house for security reason, the chief minister said police had no intention to build a watch tower on land belonging to Mr Mohanty.

He also clarified that the question of permission to build the house would be decided according to the BDA (Planning and Building Standard) Regulation 2001. He, however, told the House that he had directed the BDA to deal with the case in just and humane manner.
