Gangtok: Army to launch coaching camps

Gangtok, Nov 25: The General Officer Coammnding Black Cat Division said here today that the Army would launch coaching camps in Sikkim soon to help the candiates aspiring to join the army.

Addressing a rally of veterans organised by the Black Cat Division and the Rajya Sainik Board here the GOC said the need for launching such a campaign arose as the candidates performance during the last recruitment test conducted by the army was found not to be up to mark.

Out of the 70 candidates only three qualified for selection, he said.

The GOC also assured to organise such rallies in remote areas of the state to educate the ex-servicemen about various welfare schemes launched by the government for their benefit and to solve their problems if any.

Addressing the rally Rajya Sainik Board Secretary Lt Col P B Gurung said a decision had been taken to build a war memorial to help the people pay tribute to their heroes who have laid down their lives for the country.

But the construction work could not be started due to non availability of land.

The programme had been included in the Gangtok beautification programme and the War memorial is expected to come up at a suitable location soon.

Besides the GOC, President Veterans and Ex Servicemen League, Sikkim Maj T Gyasto, and Lt Col Gurng explained to the vetereans the schemes such as the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Service, Assured Decent Last Rites Sceme, Distress Alleviation grant, and the education schemes and appealed to them to take advantage of it.
