Air India and Karnataka bag badminton titles
Chandigarh, Nov 25 (UNI) Air India claimed the Narang Cup for Junior boys after defeating Andhra Pradesh 2-0 in the team championship final in the XXXI Junior National Badminton Championships at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula today..
Surjan Nandalpur gave Air India a flying start as he defeated RMV's Guryssai Dutt 22-20, 21-19. In the doubles Jishnu Sanyal and Akshay Dewalkar got the better of Guryssai Dutt and K Tarun 21-17, 21-16 of RMV.
Karnataka will adore their showcase with the Safi Quereshi Cup for junior girls as they defeated Maharashtra 2-1. The winners started on a false note as G M Nischita lost to Arundhati Pantawane 17-21, 16-21 in the opening singles. However, they won the next doubles and single matches to emerge winners.
Ashwini Poonappa and Nitya Sosale defeated Pradnya Fadre and Sweta Kelkar 21-9, 21-17 in the doubles to restore parity for Karnataka, Later V Ruth Misha defeated Jui Agaskar 21-12, 21-11 in the singles to give her team the trophy.
Individual event for boys and girls U-19 singles and doubles will be played from November 26 to 30.
