957 cartridges seized in Lucknow, cop arrested

Lucknow, Nov 25 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested an armoury constable and recovered 957 cartridges from his possession in the state capital.

STF SSP S K Bhagat said acting on a tip-off, a team led by ASP Vijay Bhushan reached Badshahnagar in Mahanagar area and laid a trap.

Constable Shaukat Ali posted in Sant Kabirnagar district was arrested, as soon as he arrived there.

On being frisked, 957 cartridges and a cell phone were recovered from his possession.

On interrogation, the accused confessed that he used to source empty cartridges from central reserve in Sitapur district of UP.

Later, the empty shells were converted into live cartridges for selling to criminals.

Mr Bhagat claimed Ali was planning to supply these cartridges to Nepali Maoists. Investigations are on.
