TN CM's plea not to agitate on dam issue
Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today asked farmers and traders from the state not to block movement of essential commodities to Kerala as it was not in the interests of good neighbourly relations with that state.
In a statement here today, Mr Karunanidhi said the farmers and traders of Tamil Nadu had resorted to road blockades as they were very agitated over the unexpected consequences of and 'shocking actions' with regard to the Mullaperiyar dam issue.
The state government was always committed to continuously work for the Rights of Tamil Nadu, he said, and appealed to all to have faith in this commitment and desist from agitations.
Since yesterday, political activists and farmers in the state-border areas of Coimbatore and Theni have been resorting to blocking road and rail movement, protesting against Kerala's move to send a Naval team to inspect the dam.
