Tension grips Indo-Bangla border, 17 injured
Malda, Nov 24 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Pakuahat area in Bamungola near Indo-Bangladesh border today, following a clash between the BSF and the villagers in which 17 people were injured.
Villagers gheraoed the jawans and threw stones on them, when the BSF stopped 48 cows which were being allegedly smuggled to Bangladesh. The villagers claimed that the cows were not being smuggled. Local shopkeepers also joined the villagers and the fight continued for several hours.
The BSF retaliated and fired ten rounds in the air.
Police said at least 12 BSF jawans and five villagers were injured in this incident. They have been admitted to Modipukur primary health centre.
BSF DIG D B Saraswat and Malda Additional Superintendent of Police Sujit Sarkar havy rushed to the spot.
Mr Sarkar said he would investigate into the matter and punish the jawans if they were proved guilty.
