State announces compensation to bird-flu affected poultry owners

Mumbai, Nov 24 (UNI) Maharashtra government today announced a compensation of Rs 6,000 per tonne for poultry feed to 52 bird-flu affected poultry owners from Nandurbar district.

As per the decision of the State Cabinet, which met here, poultry owners would get Rs 4.79 crore and it also approved Rs 150 per tonne for the disposal of waste material.

According to an official release, this expenditure would be shared by the State and Centre under ASCAD scheme.

Bird-flu began in Nandurbar district in the beginning of this year and birds were culled in all the poultries in this area.

According to official release, the Cabinet also approved the decision to hike the milk purchase rate from December one to March 31, 2007 considering the rise in the rates of grass and other feed material. Due to this, the farmers will get Rs 65 crore.

The Cabinet also approved 32 posts in Police, Housing and Welfare Board.

It also announced that 122 villages from Gadchiroli and three from Gondia would be given the award of Rs three lakh for the development of the villages. The award will be given as the villagers had decided to ban the entry of Naxals in their villages.
