Solar energy to light up Tripura villages
Agartala, Nov 24 (UNI) As many as 30 villages will be illuminated by solar energy in the coming few days in this hilly landlocked state.
Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has come up with the ambitious plan of illuminating 30 remote villages and 488 hamlets in West district.
According to TREDA sources, more then nine thousand families will be provided with free power connectivity. The total allocation made for the project is Rs 1.10 crore, the sources added.
TREDA is already providing solar light facilities at Sagar Mahal, one of the famous tourist spots in the state, and many other remote areas, including Dasda at Kanchanpur Sub-Division in North district as well as in the Sadar Sub-Division area.
Various remote areas in the state were illuminated by solar street lights.
Meanwhile, Tetiamura police under West district seized 18 solar plates and nine solar lanterns yesterday from a lorry. The estimated cost of the goods was Rs 3.5 lakh.
The lorry was proceeding towards North district. Two persons were arrested in this regard, police said.
