Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Sand and Tipper Lorry Owners General Welfare Association today appealed to the state government to set up more number of sand collecting points in addition to the existing 200 points all over the state to keep the price of sand stable.

Talking to newspersons here, Association general secretary S S Balaji wanted the present arrangement of sand collection by the government machinery to continue.

He said after the DMK government came to power it had rectified various practical difficulties in the sand mining which was beneficial not only to consumers and builders, but also to the sand lorry owners.

As the District Collectors had full knowledge about the availability of sand and demand in the local areas, they could easily identify the sand collection points, he added.

Referring to bringing of sand from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to Chennai city, he said this practice had badly affected the local traders. The association was pressurising the state government to put an end to it, he added.
