Saharanpur turned into fortress following clashes

Lucknow, Nov 24 (UNI) Security has been tightened in Saharanpur following clashes between the political party workers during the Bharatiya Janata Party sponsored 'bandh' today.

Some vehicles, shops and other properties were ransacked by BJP workers who were agitated over the violent incidents which had taken place during Nagar Palika meeting yesterday.

The district administration was on its toes to prevent the political agitation from taking communal proportions as BJP activists indulged in brick-batting in some of the sensitive pockets dominated by the minority community as well.

Senior Suprintendent of Police (SSP) of Saharanpur, R K Chaturvedi told UNI over phone that the situation was being brought under control. Admitting the efforts were on to prevent communal trouble, he said additional force were deployed in the city.
