Rs one cr jewellery looted in novel way
Tirupati, Nov 24 (UNI) Unidentified men decamped with jewellery worth Rs one crore from a shop at Paddakappu Layout in temple town.
Police said yesterday that a four-member gang took an adjoining shop for rent about 20 days ago and started drilling a hole into the wall to gain access to the jewellery shop.
Today, they looted cash, gold and silver ornaments and made good their escape.
The crime was suspected to have occurred between 1400 hrs and 1600 hrs when the jewellery shop closed for lunch.
Tirupati DSP Rajaiah, who rushed to the spot for an inquiry, told the press that special teams had been formed to trace the culprits.
All main points in the town have been placed on surveillance and clues taken by fingerprint experts from the scene of the crime.
