Ratharohanam festival celebrated at Tiruchanoor
Tirupati, Nov 24 (UNI) Ratharohanam (car festival) was celebrated today as part of the ongoing nine-day annual Kartheeka Brahmotsavam at Tiruchanoor near here.
The Utsav deity goddess Padmavathi, seated in the centuary-old wooden chariot colourfully decorated with flowers, was pulled by a large number of devotees through the four main streets of the temple with worshippers offering prayers.
Amidst chanting, the Ratharohanam was pulled by devotees at 816 hrs, the auspicious time on Dhanur lagnam and ended at 1000 hrs after the priest performed arathi to the goddess.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board chairman B Karunakar Reddy, TTD executive officer APVN Sarma and other devasthanam officials participated in the festival.
After the unjal seva of the goddess in the temple marriage hall later in the night, the utsav deity would be adorned with jewels. The flower bedecked Aswa (horse) vahanam would be taken out between 2030 hrs to 2200 hrs.
''Panchami theertham'' would be performed in the pushkarani (temple tank) tomorrow morning, while ''Dwajaavarohanam would be held in the evening when the celestial flag would be lowered marking the conclusion of the nine-day Brahmotsavam festival.
