Probe ordered into train-bus collision
Phagwara, Nov 24 (UNI) Railway authorities have ordered a departmental probe into the accident in which three girl students were killed and 25 others were injured when a bus carrying them to college was hit by a train on an unmanned railway crossing near Gumtali on Phillaur--Noormahal railway section yesterday.
A three-member inquiry board has been constituted to find out the causes of the accident Divisional Railway Manager V K Gupta, who ordered the inquiry, told UNI here.
He said that railways would bear all expenses of medical treatment of the injured girls.
He said about 1,000 railway crossings were still unmanned in Firozepur Division with heavy rush of vehicular traffic at about 500 crossings. The Railways have started work to identify sensitive unmanned crossings in order to convert them into manned crossings in different phases.
The DRM said that state governments should come forward to propose conversion of unmanned railway crossings to manned level crossings as they are supposed to contribute their share towards it.
