Privilege notice against Kuldip Nayar in Orissa Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 (UNI) A privilege notice against eminent journalist Kuldip Nayar was tabled by Congress member Umesh Chandra Swain for his article in a language daily on the conduct of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Mr Swain moved the privilege notice during the zero hour stating that Mr Nayar in his article under caption ''dream selling Chief Minister'' had used languages tarnishing the image and status of the Leader of the House.

The Congress member quoted some of the remarks made by the Journalist against the Chief Minister like ''Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik does not know Oriya''. Every week the Chief Minister had been signing MoUs and the people of the state had started calling him as ''Sriman MoU''.

Mr Swain further said Mr Nayar had said the Chief Minister had nothing to show his success and there had been allegation that all the MoUs were being taken up in Delhi where his brother Prem Patnaik was residing.

The Congress member urged the Speaker to refer the matter to the Committee of Privileges for examination or place it before the House for discussion.

Speaker Maheswar Mohanty, who heard the matter, said he had received the privilege notice served by the member and said he would give his ruling only after examining the contents.
