Organise PIC in villages :Governor

Gangtok, Nov 24 (UNI) Sikkim Governor V Rama Rao today urged the central governement media unit personnel to organise Public Information Campaigns in remote villages to upgrade their knowledge and educate them about the various programmes launched by the government.

Inaugurating the five-day long Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign organised by the Public Information Bureau here, the governor said most of villagers were unaware of the progammes. The personnel of the central governent media units should go to the village and tell them about the programmes and upgrade their knowledge.

Mr Rao appealed to the officials to change their mindset and share information with the people under the Right to Information Act for better administration and development of democracy.

The Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign, launched here today, is a country wide programme to disseminate information on central governent flagship programmes comprising Bharat Nirman package, Rural Employment Gurantee Act, National Rural Health Mission, Sarvasikhsa Abhiyan, Mid-Day meal, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal mission, Right to Inforamtion Act and Prime Minister's 15 point programme for welfare of minorities and to collect the feed back on their implementation.

In the first phase 64 such campaigns are scheduled to be held all over the country by December of which 46 had already been completed.

In Gangtok massive rally informing the people about the campaign and about the flagship programmes of the central government was taken around the lanes and bylanes of the capital town.

As many as 18 stalls have been put up at the campaign site by various central and state government agencies ,NGOs and Self Help Groups including PIB,DAVP, DFP, ITBP, Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency,NHPC, NABARD and BSNL to acquaint the masses about their activities.

In addition to cultural programmes, film shows and exhibitions, and discussions are being organised to inform the rural people about various programmes of the government.
