NOC for 21 Medical Colleges in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 (UNI) As many as 21 organisations have received no objection certificate (NOC) from Orissa government to set up medical colleges in the state, Health and Family Welfare Minister Duryadhan Majhi told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question of Ananta Das, the Minister said out of the 21 organisations, the Hi-Tech Medical College, established by Vigyan Bharati Charitable Trust, Bhubaneswar, has already started the course from 2005-2006.

As per the list furnished by the Minister, these 21 Institutions and Organisations have together applied for 1800 seats for the MBBS course and 1,020 seats for the BDS course.

While seven of them offered to set up the Medical Colleges in Bhubaneswar, three had intended to set up in Berhampur in South Orissa and two each in Puri and Balasore.

In response to another question raised by Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati, the Health Minister said three Medical Colleges would be established under the approval of the Western Orissa Development Council (WODC) at Bolangir, Bhawanipatna and Rourkela.

Mr Majhi said of the three Medical Colleges, the Salvam Educational and Charitable Trust, Tamil Nadu, has started the work of the Medical College at Bhawanipatna.

The Balaji Educational and Charitable Trust of Pondichery had signed MoU with the WODC to set up a Medical College at Bolangir and the WODC had initiated steps to identify the organisations for setting up of Medical College at Rourkela.
