Need for computer technology in Kannada stressed

Moodabidre, Karnataka, Nov 24 (UNI) Celebrated Kannada writer Dr Chandrashekar Kambara today stressed the need for developing computer technology in Kannada so that Kannadigas can get all knowledge in Kannada.

Presiding over the inauguration of the three-day 'Alva's Nudisiri 2006, a national literary conference here, he lamented that leading IT companies like Wipro and Infosys have not contributed anything to the development of Kannada computer technology, despite using the resources and infrastructure in the State. These companies have committed to serve foreigners and develop English, he chided.

Dr Kambara criticised Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy for urging the State Government to start English medium schools.

He rued that the Government was proving to be a stumbling block in the development of Kannada computer technology.

Kannada Development Authority Chairman Dr Siddalingaiah, who inaugurated the conference, said the demand for classical status for Kannada was a justifiable one. He called upon all Kannadigas to raise their voice to retain the prime status of Kannada and culture in Karnataka.

Criticising the Government's lethargy in the implementation of the Dr Sarojini Mahishi report, he said its immediate implementation was needed for creating more job opportunities for Kannadigas.
