Naib tehsildar deposes in Monica case

Bhopal, Nov 24 (UNI) A local court today recorded the statement of a Naib tehsildar who deposed as witness in a fake passports case wherein underworld don Abu Salem and his starlet girlfriend Monica Bedi are among the accused.

After being postponed for two days, the hearing witnessed Naib Tehsildar Maqsood Ali deposing before Judicial Magistrate Dinesh Kumar Dangi.

''I attested an affidavit of a person named Usman,'' Mr Ali said.

Monica also appeared in court for about half an hour.

Witness Nasir Ahmed's statement will be recorded tomorrow when the bench will also hear arguments regarding accused Siraj's plea for conversion into a government witness.

On November 28, 2001, a case was registered at the Koh-i-Fiza Police Station against Salem, his wife Samira Jumani and Monica for having fake passports made at the regional passport office using the names Danish Baig, Rubina Baig and Fauzia Osman respectively.

On October 12 this year, Monica was brought here from Hyderabad where she has already been convicted in another case and the court has directed that Salem also be presented before December 15.
