Mercury drops further to 24.2 degrees C in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Continuing the capital's move towards winter, the mercury today dropped further to 24.2 degrees Celsius.

The minimum also recorded a sharp fall to 12.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, from yesterday's 15 degree Celsius.

The meteorological department said snowfall in several parts of northwest India during the past 24 hours had led to a fall in the maximum temperature in the capital from yesterday's 26 degrees celsius.

The coming days could witness further fall in the minimum temperature, leading to chilly nights, a weatherman said.

''During past 24 hours, light to moderate snowfall has occurred at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Light rain/thundershowers have also occurred at a few places over plains of northwest India,'' the weatherman added.

Though this activity is likely to cease from today as the western disturbance has moved away eastwards, night temperatures are likely to fall by three-four degree C over northwest and adjoining Central India during the next three days.

The Met office has forecast a drop in minimum temperature to 11 degree C tomorrow. It has also forecast mist and shallow fog in the morning.

The fall in mercury over the past week came after the post-Diwali weeks saw a rise in mercury and slightly humid conditions in Delhi, conditions unusual for this time of the year.

However, with a fall in mercury in the last few days and more sharp fall expected in coming days, Delhi could soon witness chilly winters.
