Mahila Congress condemns batoon charge on women protesters

New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) today condemned the baton charge on Mahila Congress workers in Allahabad protesting against the alleged misrule of the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government in Uttar Pradesh and demanded its dismissal.

Dozens of women were injured in the 'lathi charge' in the march led by its president Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi yesterday, an emergency meeting of the AIMC which convened here to condemn the incident, said.

The meeting deplored the fact that despite hundreds of women participating in the demonstration 'not a single policewoman had been deployed' by the administration.

''The All India Mahila Congress strongly condemns the inhuman act of the UP Police and demands Governor T V Rajeshwar dismiss the corupt and insensitive Uttar Pradesh government, a Mahila Congress release issued here by its Vice President K S Sounaram, said.

The Mahila Congress also demanded a high level inquiry into the highhandedness of the administration in dealing with the peaceful agitation.
